Croatia
Croatia is a country located in one of the cleanest ecological places in the world. It is washed by the Adriatic Sea, and the nature here is unique. The official language is Croatian, and English is spoken in tourist centers. The national currency is the Kuna. To exchange dollars for the local currency, you need to have a passport, while for euros, documents are not required. Euros can be used on par with the local currency. When exchanging, you will have to pay a commission of 1.5-3%.
Seasonality of Recreation:
The optimal time for vacation is from May to October. The water temperature averages 25 degrees Celsius, and the hottest months are considered to be July and August. However, the heat here is well tolerated due to the sea breezes. Croatia also has a skiing season, which starts from December and lasts until the end of February.
Visa Regime:
A visa-free regime has been in effect since June 11, 2017. You can stay in EU countries for up to 90 days within 6 months. Documents required include a passport (must be biometric; if not, you need to obtain a visa from the embassy in advance; the validity period should be at least 3 months after the date of departure), return ticket, documents proving financial solvency (bank statement, traveler’s checks), and insurance (coverage of risks up to 30,000 euros).
Etiquette and Country Specifics:
Smoking in public places is prohibited in Croatia. The country is very peaceful, so you don’t have to worry about preserving your belongings and safety here. Men in Croatia are very fond of the fairer sex, so it is not recommended for girls to wander alone.
National Cuisine:
A very common dish is “Viskočka begavica” – lamb meat combined with sour sheep’s milk. Delicious beef stewed in homemade wine called “Pišticiad”. Try tasty oysters, lobsters, scorpionfish, and sea bass. Among the exotic dishes is black risotto – a dish made from rice with the addition of cuttlefish ink and seafood.
Interesting Places to Visit:
The most famous park in Croatia is the Krka National Park. The tour takes you around the river and its seven waterfalls. One of the mysterious and romantic cities in Croatia is the town of Rovinj. The waters around the town are picturesque and include 22 islets. Take a tour to the beautiful city of Dubrovnik, known as the Pearl of the Adriatic. The famous Plitvice Lakes are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
What to Bring:
Ties for men – their variety of styles are simply enchanting. Cheese aged in olive oil called “paski sir”, accompanied by wine. Chocolate with Croatian chili pepper, as well as fig jam. Lavender honey and lavender oil.
