Mauritius
The island of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean, is a paradise on earth, which is one of the world’s most prestigious resorts. The luxury hotels of the island are distinguished by their high quality service, even if you stay in a 3 * hotel, the level of service is all 5 *. The official language is English, but many locals speak French. The national currency is the Mauritian rupee. You can take dollars or euros with you, but be sure to exchange them for local currency upon arrival. You can only pay with a rupee or credit card.
Seasonality of rest:
The beach season on the island lasts all year round. The average annual air temperature is 26-27 degrees. The most favorable months for vacation are May-June and September-November. In December and February, heavy but short-term rains are possible. But, despite this, you can swim in the ocean, it remains warm and calm. But in summer in July-August it is quite dry, but there are strong winds.
Visa requirements:
A visa is issued free of charge upon arrival in the country. Duration of stay is up to 30 days. Documents: passport (valid at the time of departure); airline tickets; voucher; insurance.
Etiquette and peculiarities of the country:
Avoid laughing and loud conversations near the island’s attractions. Collecting, breaking off and buying coral is punishable. Break in many establishments from 11.00 to 12.15. There are many police officers on the street, so the crime rate is quite low.
National cuisine:
An interesting salad with a core of palm. Served with Marlin or other fish. Try the local oysters, they can be eaten like seeds: they are small but quite pleasant in taste. You can have a snack with a kind of puri sandwiches. Sea urchin meat is considered a Mauritian delicacy and is eaten raw. Try rum from the alcoholic beverages.
Interesting places to visit:
“Black River Gorge” – is a national park. There are various species of rare plants and trees, waterfalls, volcanic lakes. The business center of Mauritius is the city of Curepipe. You can see the lunar landscape by visiting the village of Chamarel. The Pamplemousse Botanical Garden is popular among tourists and locals.
What to bring:
This is a duty-free country, so branded items will cost you less even than in the country of origin. Cashmere products, the quality of which is known all over the world. Jewelry made of gold and unusual stones. Exotic fruits. Local rum. Cheaper Green Island, and more expensive, but with an interesting taste – Agricole, Rhumerie de Chamarel. You can buy spices that are grown right on the island.
