When traveling around the world, most tourists do not even realize that by buying souvenirs, gifts, and other small items in different countries, they can return a certain percentage of the cost of these goods back to their wallet. What is Tax free?
This is an opportunity to receive a cash refund of a portion of the value-added tax (VAT) included in the cost of goods purchased abroad. In many countries, only citizens, not tourists, are required to pay VAT. Therefore, the EU countries, some Asian and Latin American countries have a Tax free system.
Who can use Tax free?
Tax free is available for people staying in a foreign country for up to 6 months. You cannot use it in the following cases: if you have a work permit in the country where the purchase was made; if you have a residence permit in that country; in the case of Europe, you must reside in a non-EU country; three months have passed since the date of purchase.
Where does Tax free work?
In most cases, a sticker will be displayed on the door of a store that supports the Tax free system, indicating this.
Tax free does not apply to:
Services (tickets, restaurants, taxis, hotels, but there are exceptions), tobacco products, food (in some cases), books, and car parts.
What do you need to get a Tax Free Cheque?
1. The store must have a Tax free system.
2. You must have a passport with you.
3. The price for the purchase must be at least the price required by the Tax free system in this country.
Tax Free procedure at the airport
At the customs counter, you will receive a stamp on the receipt or on the back of the Tax free check (without it, the check will not be cashed).
Where to exchange a Tax free check for money?
To receive money under the Tax free system in a bank, you need to present a set of documents: a Ukrainian passport; a foreign passport; a sales receipt; a Tax free voucher with a customs stamp.
